8 BIOLOGICAL GROWTH CONTROLLER

MBC 80 DIESEL FUEL, BALLAST & BILGE WATER-MIX BIOCIDE

MBC 80 is a low toxicity biocide developed for use in fuel storage systems, ballast or bilge water.

Description

Aquamarine Biological Growth Controller includes a safe biocide for preventing and controlling marine growth in fresh or seawater cooling systems. It also protects against electrolytic and acid corrosion by film formation. Fully biodegradable and non-oil based it is safe to discharge.
Aquamarine Biological Growth Controller is also effective against bacteria and algae in oil and contaminated water.

Uses

Application

In water systems dosage should be varied between 1 litre/tonne of water in a closed circuit system up to 10 litres/tonne for Static Ballast Tanks or Trim tanks. In sea water intakes and cooling systems a concentration of 6 p.p.m. over a period of one hour is sought. This period is sufficient to remove the foulants before adult development, after which they are difficult to control. In the absence of the availability of Aquabac this product may be used at 6 p.p.m. in the water phase of fuel oil before separation.

BIOLOGICAL GROWTH CONTROLLER

How does it work?: MBC 80 contains a combination of different activity broad-spectrum biocides. These have an effect on both bacteria and fungi.

MBC 80 is effective in water, oil and at the interface between oil and water. The microorganisms including sulphate-reducing bacteria are killed by exposure to the biocide and MBC 80 can be used as a preventative measure or to give a quick curative kill. It also contains good anti-corrosive properties.

Results of use: MBC 80 prevents the corrosion and blockages caused by high levels of microorganisms in fuel, water or lube oils.

MBC 80 is biodegradable at environmental dilutions and no cases of bacteria immunity have been reported.
